Janet spent part of her childhood in Nigeria where her father was, for many years, a Professor at Ibadan University, establishing the Zoological Gardens at the university.

Janet retains a close association with Nigeria and is passionate about the value of education to a young person’s life, mentoring many young Nigerian students studying in the UK.  She has a degree from Bristol University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

For many years, Janet has operated the Bristol regional branch of the Royal African Society.  She is also a member of the Nigerian Field Society.
